The Schlegeis reservoir is the picture people come for: turquoise water under the Hochfeiler and a line of glaciers, best from the path towards the Olpererhütte. The Ahorn plateau above Mayrhofen is a broad open shoulder reached by cable car, and the Hintertux glacier gives snow and ice in any month. In the village, the Hauptstraße and the Ziller carry the Tyrolean detail.

The valley is deep and north-south, so the floor loses the sun early in the afternoon while the Ahorn plateau above it stays lit for another hour. Mornings are clearest at the Schlegeis. June to September is the green season with the high roads open; December to April is a full ski valley with snow down to Mayrhofen; the Hintertux glacier works in both.

No. The Schlegeis Alpenstraße above Ginzling is a toll road with narrow tunnels and it is seasonal, usually open from late May or June until October and closed and unploughed in winter. Buses run in season. The Hintertux glacier, by contrast, is reachable and running every month of the year. Check the current opening, toll and bus times before you set out.

For peak dates — Saturdays from May to September, and September weekends in the wine regions — book six to twelve months ahead. The best-reviewed photographers usually sell out right after the venue does. Weekdays and the shoulder months are far more flexible, and three to four months is normally comfortable. A winter wedding in the mountains is its own calendar: the weeks around Christmas and New Year go early, February is easier. Work backwards from the moments you cannot lose. An intimate ceremony with dinner fits into four or five hours: preparations, vows, couple portraits at golden hour, the first speeches. A classic full day, from getting ready to the first dances, runs eight to ten. Two Austrian specifics matter here. In June the sun sets around nine in the evening, so couple portraits belong in that late window rather than straight after the ceremony. And the traditional late programme — the midnight snack, the stealing of the bride, the dancing that keeps going — happens long after many contracts end, so decide in advance whether you want it covered or are at peace with a set finishing time.
