Both are normal requests and your photographer will advise honestly on which suits the location you have chosen.

Every proposal plan comes with a fallback, because Austrian mountain weather changes fast and a summer afternoon can turn thundery in an hour. Your photographer will hold a second, sheltered option — an arcaded courtyard in Vienna or Salzburg, a covered lakeside terrace, the entrance hall of a grand old hotel — plus a flexible window on the same day and a free reschedule if the day is genuinely impossible. Grey weather is not the enemy: overcast light is soft and flattering, mist on a lake photographs beautifully, and snow makes a proposal look like a film still. Your photographer will talk you through the forecast the day before, and the call stays yours.

A local photographer knows which stretch of the Hallstatt shore is still empty at seven while the village square is not, which corner of the Schönbrunn park is out of the tour route, at what hour the sun leaves the Dürnstein terrace, and which spot that looks perfect online sits next to a coach car park. They also think about the practical things: where you can kneel without someone walking through the frame, where your partner will be facing, whether the ground is wet or icy.
