Professional photoshoots at the Gosausee start from €279. Packages vary by duration and the number of edited photos — an hour at the near end of the Vorderer Gosausee, where the reflection is thirty seconds from the car park, or two hours to walk the lake circuit or go on towards the Gosaulacke. Most couples book 60 to 90 minutes here.

The northern shore of the Vorderer Gosausee is the frame: the Dachstein, its glacier and the Gosaukamm towers standing twice in still water. The flat circuit path keeps that reflection on one side for an hour. Further in, the Gosaulacke and the Hinterer Gosausee are greener and emptier, and the Zwieselalm above the lake gives the Gosaukamm ridge in profile.

Early morning, before the valley wind starts, is when the reflection holds; by midday the surface usually breaks up. The lake sits in shade until the sun clears the Gosaukamm, so the light arrives late and warm. June brings alpine roses, October turns the larches gold and thins the crowds, and from December the lake lies under snow with the ridge black above it.

A public road runs from Gosau village to the car park at the near end of the lake, about eight kilometres, and parking is paid; a bus serves it in season. The Gosaukammbahn to the Zwieselalm runs in summer and again in winter as part of the ski area, with a closed gap between the two. Check the current season, hours and road conditions before setting out.

For peak dates — Saturdays from May to September, and September weekends in the wine regions — book six to twelve months ahead. The best-reviewed photographers usually sell out right after the venue does. Weekdays and the shoulder months are far more flexible, and three to four months is normally comfortable. A winter wedding in the mountains is its own calendar: the weeks around Christmas and New Year go early, February is easier. If your date is closer than that, do not assume it is hopeless — Photo Austria can check the entire vetted roster for one date at once. When comparing, ask to see a full wedding gallery rather than portfolio highlights; how someone handles a dim baroque church tells you more than their best ten frames.

Work backwards from the moments you cannot lose. An intimate ceremony with dinner fits into four or five hours: preparations, vows, couple portraits at golden hour, the first speeches. A classic full day, from getting ready to the first dances, runs eight to ten. Two Austrian specifics matter here. In June the sun sets around nine in the evening, so couple portraits belong in that late window rather than straight after the ceremony. And the traditional late programme — the midnight snack, the stealing of the bride, the dancing that keeps going — happens long after many contracts end, so decide in advance whether you want it covered or are at peace with a set finishing time. Your photographer will recommend honest hours, not maximum hours.
