Professional photoshoots at the Achensee start from €279. Packages vary by duration and the number of edited photos — an hour on the Pertisau shore and its jetties, or two hours that add the Rofan cable car or the boat to the Gaisalm. Most couples book 60 to 90 minutes; the lift and the boat each eat enough time that they need the two-hour option.

Pertisau's flat green shore and its wooden jetties give the water with the Karwendel rising straight behind it. The Erfurter Hütte, ten minutes above Maurach in the Rofan cable car, is the one place that holds the whole nine-kilometre lake in a single frame. The Gaisalm under its cliffs is reached by boat or the shore path, and from spring to autumn the steam cog railway climbs from Jenbach.

Morning is the calm part of the day: the wind that makes this a sailing lake usually gets up around midday and holds until evening, so still reflections belong to the early hours. The Karwendel shore falls into shadow first in the afternoon while the Rofan side keeps its light longer. May to October is the green season, the colour strongest in June; from December the shore villages turn to skiing.

No — all three of the things people come for are seasonal. The Achenseebahn steam cog railway runs roughly from May to October, the lake boats from spring into autumn, and the Rofan cable car pauses between the summer and winter seasons. The shore path to the Gaisalm is exposed and shuts in bad weather. Check the current operating dates for whichever of them a session depends on.

For peak dates — Saturdays from May to September, and September weekends in the wine regions — book six to twelve months ahead. The best-reviewed photographers usually sell out right after the venue does. Weekdays and the shoulder months are far more flexible, and three to four months is normally comfortable. A winter wedding in the mountains is its own calendar: the weeks around Christmas and New Year go early, February is easier. When comparing, ask to see a full wedding gallery rather than portfolio highlights; how someone handles a dim baroque church tells you more than their best ten frames.

Work backwards from the moments you cannot lose. An intimate ceremony with dinner fits into four or five hours: preparations, vows, couple portraits at golden hour, the first speeches. A classic full day, from getting ready to the first dances, runs eight to ten. Two Austrian specifics matter here. In June the sun sets around nine in the evening, so couple portraits belong in that late window rather than straight after the ceremony. And the traditional late programme — the midnight snack, the stealing of the bride, the dancing that keeps going — happens long after many contracts end, so decide in advance whether you want it covered or are at peace with a set finishing time. Your photographer will recommend honest hours, not maximum hours.
