About Seefeld & the Leutasch
Seefeld sits on a wide sunny shelf at about 1,180 metres, high enough above the Inn valley that the light is clean most of the year and the plateau stays green or white long after Innsbruck has changed. The postcard is the Seekirchl, the little Holy Cross chapel with an onion dome standing alone on its meadow at the edge of the village — nothing behind it but grass, forest and the Karwendel, which makes it the one frame in Tyrol where a couple can be photographed against a landmark with no crowd in shot. Ten minutes' walk away, the Wildsee is a small warm lake ringed by a path and reed beds, with the village hotels reflected in it on a still morning. The Rosshütte funicular leaves from the eastern edge of the village and lifts you to 1,750 metres in under ten minutes, opening the Wetterstein and the Hohe Munde across the valley. West of the plateau the Leutasch is quieter and more agricultural: a long green valley of farms and chapels running towards the German border, with the Leutascher Geisterklamm cut into its far end — a gorge walked on steel galleries bolted above a turquoise river. South-west, the Möserer See is a forest pond that goes glassy in the late afternoon. Seefeld is a year-round destination and the two halves of the year look nothing alike: green pasture, wildflower meadows and swimming from June to September; from December to March a Nordic-skiing plateau with groomed tracks running past the chapel and the Hohe Munde standing white above the whole valley.

Top Photo Spots in Seefeld
The most photogenic locations for your Seefeld & the Leutasch photoshoot
The Seekirchl chapel on its meadow
A white chapel with an onion dome standing alone on an open meadow at the edge of the village, nothing behind it but grass, forest and the Karwendel.
Best time: The last hour of daylight for the façade; early morning for an empty meadow and mist
Walk right round the building before you start — the background changes completely between the north and south sides. In winter stay off the groomed classic tracks, which are in constant use, and shoot from the trodden edge.
The Wildsee
A small warm lake five minutes from the village centre, ringed by a level path, reed beds and benches, with the hotels and the mountains doubled in it on a still morning.
Best time: Before mid-morning while the water is still a mirror; fog burns off around nine on cold mornings
Circle to the south and east shores for a frame with no buildings in it at all. Reflections die once the plateau breeze starts, usually late morning — do the water first and the chapel afterwards.
The Rosshütte and the Wetterstein view
A funicular from the edge of the village to a mountain terrace at 1,750 metres, where the Wetterstein and the Hohe Munde stand across the whole valley.
Best time: Late afternoon, when the terrace still holds light the plateau has lost; early morning for the clearest air
Walk five minutes from the top station before you start — that is where the buildings drop out of the frame. Take a layer: it is regularly ten degrees colder up there than in the village.
The Leutasch valley and the Geisterklamm
A long green farming valley west of the plateau, ending in a gorge walked on steel galleries bolted to the rock above turquoise water.
Best time: Midday for light down in the gorge; the last hour of the day for the open valley
The galleries are narrow, wet and have a one-way section — go early to avoid meeting a group head-on. Bring something to wipe the lens: the spray carries much further than it looks.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should we book our engagement photoshoot?
For Vienna and Salzburg in May and June, for the Wachau during apricot blossom in April, and for the Advent weeks from late November, book four to eight weeks ahead — those are the dates that fill first. The rest of the year, two to three weeks is usually enough, and the mountains stay flexible outside the ski holidays. If you are combining the session with a venue-scouting trip, book as soon as the dates are fixed; the exact time and route can be settled later in the chat with your photographer. Short notice is still worth a try — Photo Austria can check the whole vetted roster for your date at once.
Can we use engagement photos for our save-the-dates?
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons couples book. You receive high-resolution files with personal usage rights, which covers printed cards, your wedding website, guest apps and social posts. Say up front that save-the-dates are the goal and your photographer will deliberately shoot wider frames with empty space for text, mix portrait and landscape orientations, and include a few images that still read at postcard size. The two of you small against the Hallstatt shore, or on a Wachau vineyard terrace with the Danube behind, makes an announcement people keep on the fridge. Delivery usually takes days rather than weeks, so the cards can go out quickly.
What's the difference between an engagement and couples session?
In practice they are the same product: same length, same starting price of €310, same photographers. The difference is intent. An engagement session usually has deliverables behind it — save-the-dates, a wedding website, images that match the look of the wedding you are planning — so your photographer will shoot cleaner compositions, remember the ring, and sometimes echo your venue's colours. A couples session is looser and simply documents the trip and the two of you as you are. Say which one you mean when booking and the plan follows; plenty of couples honestly want both, and an hour and a half is usually enough to cover them.
How much does a photoshoot in Seefeld cost?
Professional photoshoots in Seefeld start from €310. Packages differ in length and in the number of edited photos — an hour at the Seekirchl and the Wildsee, which are five minutes apart, or two hours that add the Rosshütte funicular or the Leutasch valley. Most couples book 60 to 90 minutes; anything involving the cable car or the Geisterklamm needs the longer option.
What are the best photo spots in Seefeld?
The Seekirchl, the onion-domed chapel standing alone on its meadow at the edge of the village, is the frame everyone comes for. The Wildsee a few minutes away gives still water and reed beds, the Rosshütte funicular opens the Wetterstein and the Hohe Munde in ten minutes, and west of the plateau the Leutasch valley and its Geisterklamm gorge are quieter. The Möserer See goes glassy late in the day.
What is the best time of day and season for photos in Seefeld?
Early morning is best at the Wildsee and the Möserer See, when both go mirror-still and the plateau is empty. The Seekirchl faces roughly south-west, so it takes late-afternoon light well. Meadows are at their fullest from June to early August; September brings clear air and the cattle down from the high pastures; and from December to March the plateau is groomed cross-country track with the Hohe Munde white above it.
