The Wildsee

Best time: Before mid-morning while the water is still a mirror; fog burns off around nine on cold mornings
Circle to the south and east shores for a frame with no buildings in it at all. Reflections die once the plateau breeze starts, usually late morning — do the water first and the chapel afterwards.
The Rosshütte and the Wetterstein view
A funicular from the edge of the village to a mountain terrace at 1,750 metres, where the Wetterstein and the Hohe Munde stand across the whole valley.
Best time: Late afternoon, when the terrace still holds light the plateau has lost; early morning for the clearest air
Walk five minutes from the top station before you start — that is where the buildings drop out of the frame. Take a layer: it is regularly ten degrees colder up there than in the village.
The Leutasch valley and the Geisterklamm
A long green farming valley west of the plateau, ending in a gorge walked on steel galleries bolted to the rock above turquoise water.
Best time: Midday for light down in the gorge; the last hour of the day for the open valley
The galleries are narrow, wet and have a one-way section — go early to avoid meeting a group head-on. Bring something to wipe the lens: the spray carries much further than it looks.
