Professional photoshoots in Graz start from €279. Packages differ by duration and the number of edited photos — an hour covers the Schlossberg terrace and the lanes below it, while two hours can add the Kunsthaus and the Murinsel on the river, or a drive out to Schloss Eggenberg. Most couples book 60 to 90 minutes, which is enough for the whole old town on foot.

The Uhrturm terrace on the Schlossberg is the signature frame, with the whole UNESCO field of red roofs below it. In the town, the Landhaus courtyard stacks three storeys of arcades around a well, Hauptplatz has the painted house and the Rathaus, and the Sporgasse climbs narrow towards the hill. On the water, the Kunsthaus and the Murinsel are the modern counterpoint; Schloss Eggenberg adds formal gardens and peacocks.

Come to the Schlossberg early or in the last two hours of daylight: the terrace looks west, so the roofs below it glow late, while morning keeps the courtyards soft and empty. The Landhaus arcades hold indirect light all day. May to September brings long evenings and full terraces, October colours the beeches on the hill, and from late November the Advent markets light the squares until early January.

Three ways go up: the Schlossbergbahn funicular from the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Kai, the glass lift driven into the rock from Schlossbergplatz, and the 260 steps of the Kriegssteig beside it. The funicular and the lift are ticketed, the steps are free, and the Uhrturm terrace itself costs nothing. All three work through the year, but times and fares change with the season, so check the current ones before the shoot.

For peak dates — Saturdays from May to September, and September weekends in the wine regions — book six to twelve months ahead. The best-reviewed photographers usually sell out right after the venue does. Weekdays and the shoulder months are far more flexible, and three to four months is normally comfortable. A winter wedding in the mountains is its own calendar: the weeks around Christmas and New Year go early, February is easier. When comparing, ask to see a full wedding gallery rather than portfolio highlights; how someone handles a dim baroque church tells you more than their best ten frames.

Work backwards from the moments you cannot lose. An intimate ceremony with dinner fits into four or five hours: preparations, vows, couple portraits at golden hour, the first speeches. A classic full day, from getting ready to the first dances, runs eight to ten. Two Austrian specifics matter here. In June the sun sets around nine in the evening, so couple portraits belong in that late window rather than straight after the ceremony. And the traditional late programme — the midnight snack, the stealing of the bride, the dancing that keeps going — happens long after many contracts end, so decide in advance whether you want it covered or are at peace with a set finishing time. Your photographer will recommend honest hours, not maximum hours.
