Vienna and the Wachau start at the floor, and the second hour comes cheap there: the typical two hours cost €582 in Vienna and €578 in the Wachau, both below the €635 typical for Austria as a whole. The Wachau also has the lowest typical hour of the six, €428.

Salzburg and Hallstatt start at €400, and the step to two hours is steep: the cheapest two hours in either place cost €750. The 90-minute packages are the practical middle; the guides list them.

Graz and Innsbruck list no two-hour package, hence "on request": ask a photographer for a quote through the catalogue, or use Quick Booking below. Innsbruck is the dearest place to start, at €575 for the cheapest hour.

What moves the price

Edited photos, more than minutes. An hour costs anything from €345 to €910, and both ends last sixty minutes. The difference is how many edited photos come back and the work behind each, so compare packages by the number delivered.

The occasion. Weddings are quoted by the day, from €1,955 to €8,535; elopements the same way, or as a custom offer. A proposal rarely needs more than an hour: the photographer stays out of sight until the question, and the next half hour becomes a couples session. With small children, 90 minutes (typically €565) leaves room for breaks.

Season and sunrise. A package costs the same in January as in July, at dawn as at dusk. The season changes the country around you: Advent markets in Vienna and Salzburg from November, the Salzburg Festival in July and August, apricot blossom in the Wachau for about two weeks in spring, snow on the Nordkette above Innsbruck all winter. At sunrise, Hallstatt and the old towns are close to empty; in Vienna in June, that means before five.

Travel and lifts. A session inside one old town stays on foot. The Wachau is about an hour from Vienna by car, and in Hallstatt visitors' cars stay in the car parks outside the centre. The high viewpoints above Innsbruck, Salzburg and Hallstatt are usually reached by funicular, cable car or lift, and the ride counts as session time. Tickets and parking are not in the package price; agree beforehand who pays the photographer's ticket.
