The lakefront below the pilgrimage church is the signature frame, with the white tower above the painted hotel fronts and the Falkenstein slope behind. The pier by the Weißes Rössl gives the same view from the water's edge, and the Ochsenkreuz path east of the village lifts it slightly. For the big picture, the Schafberg summit holds three lakes in one turn.

The village faces south across the lake, so it is lit from mid-morning onwards and the last two hours before sunset are the warmest. The water is stillest at dawn. May and June bring green slopes and the first boats, July and August are busy and warm, late September and October give clear air and colour, and December adds a small Advent market on the shore.

The Schafbergbahn is seasonal: it usually runs from around May to late October, weather permitting, and does not operate in winter. In July and August the early departures sell out, so book the first train of the day if you want clear air and an empty summit. Times, prices and the last downhill service change each season, so check them before planning a shoot up there.

It happens on most shoots and our photographers plan for it. The best family pictures never come from asking a child to pose; they come from play.
